For the last 4 years, Enduroman have successfully deployed a strategy at our events that encourages marshals to help out in return for free future race entries. The idea behind this, is that hopefully Enduroman can guarantee that those that marshal have experience in the sport of triathlon that they can pass to the athletes and they can experience first hand the difficulties encountered at ultra endurance events providing them with valuable knowledge for the marshal's future competitions.

This format has had its ups and down in the past, particularly when marshals commit to full days marshaling but leave their duties whilst athletes are still competing presenting Enduroman with a difficult workload to manage for the remainder of the day.

For this reason, prior to Avon Tyrrell 2011, Enduroman advertised that marshals needed to commit for a 24 hour continuous period from 5.30am each day to receive a free future single entry. For example if marshals committed to a 48 hour period starting at 5.30am on the first day and ended their duty at 5.30am on the 3rd day then they would receive a free future Double Enduroman entry.

Each event works independently, so if a marshal helps out at Avon Tyrrell, then the free entry would be offered to race only at this location. The only exception to this is when marshals helped out at Lichfield 2010 in return for a free entry at Avon Tyrrell 2011.

At present, the only race deploying this scheme is Avon Tyrrell, so any previous marshaling completed at Lanzarote will not be counted towards free entry at Avon Tyrrell.

To ensure that Enduroman continues to use quality marshals, only future athletes will be able to exchange time helped for free entries. If friends, family or partners wish to accompany the marshal then Enduroman will be happy to pay for food and camping fees for them but will not transfer their help to another's race entry.  Also, if marshals only commit to part-days (less than 24 hours continously), Enduroman will not convert this time into a free entry.

Marshaling is hard work, and you should expect it to be hard, with very little sleep in return for a race entry worth up to £1000.  If you commit to 48 hours marshaling in return for a free Double entry please do not be disappointed when you ask if you can leave at 5pm on your second day so that you can 'miss the traffic' or 'you are tired' when you are told that you will not be offered a free entry.  Our only priority are the awesome athletes that are competing, and Enduroman needs to know in advance what support they will have from Enduroman and at what times.  No exceptions.
